چکیده

Status of this Memo This memo provides information for the Internet community. It does not specify an Internet standard of any kind. Distribution of this memo is unlimited. This document reflects an existing deployed protocol. The IETF does have a working group which is in the process of producing a standards track protocol to address the same issues. Abstract The memo specifies the Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP). The goal of the protocol is to allow hosts to appear to use a single router and to maintain connectivity even if the actual first hop router they are using fails. Multiple routers participate in this protocol and in concert create the illusion of a single virtual router. The protocol insures that one and only one of the routers is forwarding packets on behalf of the virtual router. End hosts forward their packets to the virtual router. The router forwarding packets is known as the active router. A standby router is selected to replace the active router should it fail. The protocol provides a mechanism for determining active and standby routers, using the IP addresses on the participating routers. If an active router fails a standby router can take over without a major interruption in the host's connectivity. This memo also discusses the ARP, MAC address, and security issues with this protocol.

The study of router standby mechanism for smart and cooperation network

This paper is devoted to researching the routing reliability and router standby mechanism for smart and cooperation network. The method of updating and initiating the standby router has been also provided. With the aid of virtual interface, both the main router and standby router will be transparent to the network. Through Mini-Net simulated experiment, this paper has verified the mechanism. It...

Toward a UCM-Based Approach for Recovering System Availability Requirements from Execution Traces

Software maintenance accounts for a significant proportion of the cost of the software life cycle. Software engineers must spend a considerable amount of time understanding the software system functional attributes and non-functional (e.g., availability, security, etc.) aspects prior to performing a maintenance task. In this paper, we propose a dynamic analysis approach to recover availability ...

Optimal redundancy allocation for high availability routers

How to optimally allocate redundant routers for high availability (HA) networks is a crucial task. In this paper, a 5-tuple availability function A (N ,M, , , ) is proposed to determine the minimum required number of standby routers to meet the desired availability ( ) of an HA router, where N and M are the numbers of active routers and standby routers, respectively, and , , and are a single ro...

Design and Implementation of High Availability OSPF Router

In this paper, we propose a High Availability Open Shortest Path First (HA-OSPF) router which consists of two OSPF router modules, active and standby, to support a high availability network. First, we used the continuous-time Markov chain (CTMC) to analyze the steady-state availability of an HA-OSPF router with one active router and N standby routers (1 + N redundancy model). Then, with the fai...

Object-Oriented Design and Implementation of Fault Management Function for MPLS network

In this paper, we propose a fault management with fast rerouting restoration scheme in MPLS network. The proposed scheme finds out the root cause of the occurred fault, and provides differentiated service with guaranteed QoS (Quality of Service) according to the differentiated backup path options. It can provide various backup path options, such as 1:1, 1:N or M:N fast-reroute by NMS, and opera...
